My daughter is 10 years old. What i did was develop a good relationship with my daughters teacher. The teacher would e-mail or text me to let me know that my daughter had homework, just in case my daughter wanted to lie to me and say she didn't have any homework. Then I started making frequent pop-ups at the school. My daughter didn't know when I was going to show up. This worked with my daughter. I hope this helps you.

I'm glad I found this post. My daughter is in first grade so her homework is a little less, but it's still sometimes hard to get her to do it. She gets distracted and wants to play. The emailing and texting is a very good idea. Any time I have a question or concern, I email her teacher and her teacher is great about responding. Besides email, her teacher sends home a paper every Monday that tells what their homework is each day of the week along with any other activities or events going on that week. They may not do that for older kids, but you could talk to her teacher about doing this since she's trying to avoid her homework assignments. When your child knows you talk to their teacher, it makes it harder if not impossible for them to lie about it. Dropping in unexpectedly is good too. If you have the time for it, helping out with the PTO or any school activity that needs volunteers is a good way to interact with other moms so you know what's going on. Hope this helps!
