longer naps?

My son is almost one year old and is taking two naps a day. Good for him, right? Well, except for the fact that he gets up at 7am, his first nap is at 9am. He fusses in his crib for about 25 minutes and then sleeps for about 20 minutes... His second nap has to happen before 1pm, and again lots of fussing not much sleeping. I tried to come back into his room after he is up and crying for me and put him back to sleep. That worked for about 6 minutes. Are there any approaches I could try or is it a lost battle and he's just not a napper? (I wasn't, as my mom told me).

Hi Luba! My son when he was around that age only took one nap a day. It started around 11AM or right after lunch. They do well sleeping without any issues when they have a full belly. If you have not already started him on sleeping in his crib without putting him to sleep first you may want to do that now. Let me know if you need anymore help or have questions. All children are not the same but if you put your child on a schedule once you get the schedule and he gets to use to it. It is great for you and them.

It's possible that he's just not a napper. My 2 year-old never has been much of one. Occasionally I'll get a nap out of her, but I've learned not to count on it since I usually don't. My son (almost 1), on the other hand, would sleep practically all day if I let him. As Nicole mentioned, all babies are different. I would establish and stick to a routine naptime everyday (music, reading a book, rocking or other calming activity right before putting your baby down for a nap), if you're not already doing that and see if that helps. Unfortunately it's also possible that, like my daughter, he's just not much of a napper. For your sake, I hope that's not the case!:-)
