Considering

Hi!  I'm the mother of a 2.5 year old girl, and I just pulled her out of daycare.  She went all of ONE month, and I'd had enough!  I really just wanted her to be around other kids her age, but they basically watched television all day.  Anyhoo, I'm considering homeschooling her from 5 years on up, but I'd like to know what kinds of things you all did with your toddlers, and at what age did you "officially" begin homeschooling your child(ren). Any advice, tips, etc are welcome.

Hi Niya! This is our first year homeschooling, we actually started last summer.  I have 12 and 6 year old boys and a 15 month old daughter.  I have already started her schooling.  She watches sign language videos about 4 days a week, I read to her, she has several different kinds of flash cards that we use, including shapes, colors, numbers, letters, first words, and pictures.  Granted she is only 15 months, but she LOVES LOVES LOVES when it is her 'school' time.  She uses some of the sign language to communicate with us, and she understands it when I use it on her.  It is pretty cool.  Hope this helps, it is definatley worth it to homeschool, so many opportunities possible.  :D

Hi Niya, I have always worked with my girls daily, but like you just pulled my girls out of head start they were bored and ahead. my girls ages now are 3,4 and 5 and i work with them five days a week for four hours a day and my oldest was writting here name at age three. I am going to see how things go from now untill this fall when my oldest goes to kindergarten to make up my mind completely about homeschooling but as for now they really enjoy it and seem to learn more at home then they did in school. And I do alot of what Cece does also, we also do work sheets of everything and computer learning games and we do a letter and number of the week and two different words every week which they write on a chalk board and easel and then they each have a journal that they practice the letter and word of the week and when done they draw a picture. This week we are working on money and next week on how to tell time and every friday we review and the money and clock I will go back to again. My girls already know there seasons and how many days are in the week and can name the days of the week. And that was with three weeks of school at there age for four hours a day and for fun we do projects of different kinds like bead work and many others and they love to bake and they have treasure boxes and we go on treasure hunts to the park. But I myself am still learning and looking for suggestions and ways to help my girls learn and to do it in a way that is fun for them. Good luck and if you have any ideas to share I would love to hear them. good luck and have fun!

Thanks ladies!  I am going to do the letter/color/shape of the week starting tomorrow.  I need to gather some resources first.

Dee, you are doing a GREAT job with your children.  I am afraid that if you put them in school you will be disappointed.  You are teaching them things that they are just starting to learn in Kindergarten, YOU GO GIRL!  That makes me see that when my daughter turns 2 and 3 and so on, that I will have already taught her so much more than the school would be able to.  I took my sons out of school last year, one was in 5th and the other Kindergarten.
