Hi Denise,

thank you for joining our group. My kids went both through surgery, which in itself does not at all make it better than your situations but I guess there was not comparaison in terms of development. From my experience, I am learning everyday not to fall in the trap of comparaison. I just look at them as individual and I am checking at their little improvements everyday and I am saying that in 20 years from now we will laugh about today's problem (or rmaybe not) but life is full of uncertaintly and surprise and the today problem child is going to be the easy one and viceversa!
It is really important that the kids feel secure and serene, and as parents we do the best we can...

Hi. My name is Eva. I have 4 year old twin girls, and even though neither had surgery, they still developed differently. I also have a 16 month and a 10 month. The 10 month old was 3 months premie, so he is way behind schedule too. I have talked to my doctor and he said it usually takes about a year for a child who was premie or had surgery to catch up. I wouldn't worry too much right now about it, as long as he is healthy and happy.

Actually my information on preemies is really it takes more than a year, maybe a year in term of size but in terms of overall development you don't really know for a long time what are the effect of the missed time of gestation where the nervous system continue to develop.

I am not saying that to alarm anybody but it is not like at one year everything equal off (that is what I use to think too). I am passing on medical information that I wish I had never have to come across so closely!
