I am currently studying to become an elementary teacher (2 more years to go) however today I realized I would not be able to take my daughter to her first day of kindergarden! (she is only 4 months) I was crushed, I even thought about changing my major! Any moms out there, that where in this position? How did you deal?
I am not in that position Amanda but mabye you can. Mabye they can get a substitute teacher for that day, I am sure they will understand what a big deal it is!
Although I'm a high school teacher, I thought I'd throw in my two cents. (Seems all I have left in my wallet nowadays, anyway.)
You could take a half-day. Seriously, don't even sweat it. After 10 years of teaching, I've finally come to believe what my colleagues have been telling me: nothing is more important than you. The kids in your class will "get over it" (not seeing you for a portion of the morning or even the whole day should you choose to take it off) and your administration has other things to worry about.
If you really like teaching, stick with it. Nothing is better than having the summer off with your child. Also, nothing beats a good snow day or the holidays you get.
