Hi ya'll...I'm new...My name is Rosalie and I am from NY....
I have been dating this wonderful guy for about 8 months...he has 5 kids....3boys, and 2 girls, and I have a boy....long story short, I have no clue how to raise girls! The 11 yo has ADHD, and acts like she is 6 or 7....their mom teaches them NOTHING...she is 11 and has no clue how to braid hair, coordinate her clothes, she doesn't even know how to wash dishes. I know she is going to be hitting puberty soon, and we need to get it across to her that she can't roll around on the floor with the boys, or sit with her legs in the air like the boys....My bf says he can handle the boys, but he doesn't know how to handle the girls, and honestly neither do I. How can we teach the 11 yo how to grow up a little bit more? I knwo she needs to be a kid, but inevitably she's gonna hit womanhood soon, and she has a far way to go....to even act like a girl. If it was just a tomboy thing, that would be ok, but she is totally normal, and acts like a child.....AAAGGGGGhhhhhhhhh..... Any suggestions anyone? |

| Welcome to the group. As for your problem. Hmm...I have an 11 year old sister and she plays with her brothers(5 of them) all the time. As long as she's wearing pants and shirts that don't ride up when she's playing on the floor, let her do whatever. If she's wearing a skirt or dress, remind her that she needs to keep her legs together when sitting and not to let the skirt ride up. When she's picking out clothing, explain to her why some things don't match. Teach her how to braid her hair(if she's interested) or put her hair in a ponytail. I have 2 girls, they're still young, but I say for the most part, treat the girls and the boys the same. They'll all grow up...just be consistent with what you tell her and come to an agreement with your bf about which behaviors you want to stop and how you want to do that. Good luck! |
