Make MY Child to SPeak
CAn some one help me?
I have a 3yr old daughter. She is good at everything like palying with blocks, toys, holding apen or pencil, traking a crayon in her hand.

But she doesnt speak like a 3yr old. She has started speaking a few words from last month and is adding a few everyday.

She has started asking for things she wants like water, blanket, crayons, etc.

How can I push her to speak more.

Please help.

Are you involved in a playgroup? How would you feel about taking her to a "preschool" a few half-days per week? The reason I'm asking this is because then she would be forced to talk, as her peers don't understand her the way you do. She would be around other kids her are who are verbal and it would probably encourage her to speak more as well. Just a thought?

Is she learning more than one language, my doctor told me it can take them longer to talk, if they are learning two languages! My daughter is learning spanish and english, so it's alot harder!

Have you considered speech therapy? My friends son is almost three and just started talking (not too well) so his mom is taking him for this.

Don't put to much pressure on here to talk it will make here want to talk less. Just talk to her like she is talking to you. pause for her to answer your question. describe things to her and tell her what you are doing. Just talk to her a lot and respond to her when she does talk. If you are really worried talk to her doctor about it. He/she might want to check her hearing or suggest speech therapy. Most likely it is nothing she may just not have anything to say.

definetly get here hearing checked. Language for children is easy for them as they learn it from scratch. Meaning hearing, speaking, then grammer. Unlike us who when learning a new language we learn grammer then speaking and hearing. My son is 3 yrs old and was 3 mo premature. He has some delay but is overcoming. I began teaching him sign language to help him. He started talking about a year ago. Its not perfect but it is good. If your pediatrician is not concerned and her hearing is good, I would not worry. You might consider sign language to help her develope her abstractt hinking and give her a visual for seeing what she is saying. if you want more info on the benifits of sign let me know. I am an interpreter as well and have seen some great benifits to teaching children sign no matter what their hearing is.

Definitely get her hearing checked , but if thats fine then have her checked out with a speech pathologist and see what they suggest. My son will be three on Dec 1st and has recently just started speaking .
If she is learning more words every day that's a very good thing maybe she is just doing it on her own time frame..

I read my son lots of books. He is 21/2 and I make him tell me the story. He loves thomas the train so we have lots of thomas books. When he tells me simple things like thomas choo- choo up the hill. But it helps him with his vocabulary. We always to to each other. I find it helps me to talk out loud to him. He reponses, like if I tell him we are going to the store he will nod his head and go sore mommy. My mom is a school teacher and he says reading to them helps their vocabulary, she did says you want to make sure the t.v. is not on. Good Luck!
