My 14 month old is starting to be a VERY picky eater. He used to be really good and would eat whatever I made for him. Now he doesn't know what he wants. I think he only likes sweet stuff now like fruit but whenever I get desperate and give in a give some applesauce he's beginning to push that away too. I know kids go through phases but I'm not sure what to offer him because I know he's hungry he keeps walking towards the kitchen pointing, but whatever I offer him doesn't seem to be what he wants. I need some advice. What types of foods are you offering to your little guys? He does well with everything and I have been feeding him whatever I cook but his father watches him during the day and insists on still giving him baby food for every meal. I need some suggestions badly! Thank you. |

My son was a really good eater and would eat anything as well but around 12 mos or so he started doing the same thing he is now 17 mos. He goes through phases. He likes most vegtables but sometimes he won't eat them and other times he will eat them right up, I asked my pedi and she said that was a Toddler for you, they can't make up there minds one minute they like it and the next they don't so it is very normal. I just try to have his favorite meals as often as possible even though his dad and I are tired of them. We have spaggetti and meatloaf at least once a week and he usually will eat chicken with mashed potatoes and a veggie the other nights I try to have something I know he will eat but still introduce him to different things so he isn't always eating the same thing everyday, I know some moms that get in a routine of just fixing the child what they will eat and then that's all the ever eat I don't want that to happen. Some days are better than others because if he is really hungry he will eat almost anything. Kids won't starve themselves. As for the fruits I would give those as a snack, my son would eat the fruit and nothing else if I gave it with a meal like at breakfast so I stopped giving it with the meal and give it to him for a snack. My son used to love yogurt to but now he doesn't eat it as well so I got the drinkable ones and put that in a sippy and he sucks it right down. Some of it to with my son is control he wants to feed himself and if someone is going to feed him well then he just won't eat it so meal times at our house if very messy but that's okay. Good Luck. |

Thank you so much Amy! It's nice knowing others are in the same bout sometimes. |

I had the same problem with my boys around the same age. My oldest has pretty much grown out of it now that he's 3. I would offer him choices of two things that were healthy and I knew he was familiar with. By letting him choose between two items, it made him feel in control even though I still had the say in what kind of food it was. It could be that they are just testing us to see if they can have their way. Good luck! |

Hi Beth,
I totally understand where you are coming from. My son just turned 12 months and he still wants the baby food. Even with that he is picky. I try to introduce the stage 3 and even some table food but...to know avail. I just keep trying a variety of foods until I find something he likes. |

Try getting you hubby to be consistent with feeding him regular food if your son is ready for that, that is (my mom said I didn't even get teeth till after I was 12 months old so every child is different). Being consistent can help. Also if he decides one week he doesn't like something he used to try waiting a few weeks and try again. He will eat when he is hungry. My youngest used to be a very picky eater but now he will eat pretty much anything. It's a phase and hopefully he will get over it soon. |
