Strange lazy eye...
I don't know if I'm going crazy. For the past few months, I noticed every time my mother-in-law babysits my son, next day his eyes are crossed (lazy eye). When he is home with me and my husband, his eyes are normal but every time he spends a day at my mother-in-law's house, I noticed his eyes are crossed and takes few days to re-adjust. Strangely, my mom has even noticed this.

I mentioned this to my husband, and he thinks I'm out of my mind.

My son's eye does that from time to time. I haven't really pin pointed what the cause may be, but our pedi wasn't worried about it YET. Does he watch television at Grandma's? I know with my own eyes if I watch more than I'm use to they hurt; maybe this is the culprit??? Maybe next time he spends time with her casually ask what they did together and see if television comes up as an activity or maybe just on for background noise. Your son could be watching more than what is realized...

Hope this helps!

Tell the doctor ASAP, I had that with my daughter. They sent her for tests and everything was okay. My doc said it was good I told him

We have an appointment with a specialist to have his eyes checked. The only thing I can think of may be the way she feeds him but never thought about TV.

She is watching him tomorrow. I'll have to see what transpires Wednesday with his eyes.

By all means go get it checked, but that happens with all babies. My daughter is 1 and it is still not gone yet, but it is normal for most babies. Their brain is still learning and they like to see everything at once. I would not worry about it, but of course there are children with eye problems, so you do what makes you comfortable. I bet everything is fine. Best of luck. Veronica

You should get this checked out. I had lazy eye as a child and it was not checked out until I was in kindergarden. I wound up having to wear a patch over one eye as therapy for the lazy eye. I am sure that we have better therapy than that by now, but the earlier you catch it the better.

I am just checking back to see how everything is. Everything turn out ok?

Thank you, Veronica for checking in. My son hasn't had his appointment yet. Our pedi says by 6 months, it should get better but since my husband's side of the family has history of this kind of problem, we want to get it checked. I really hope he won't need glasses.

My son's eyes seem to have improved but once again after my mother-in-law watched him, his eyes are REALLY crossed. I have a feeling it is the way she feeds him. I keep telling people (my mother-in-law and my mom) to rotate each side of the arm when they bottle feed but they disregard this request. It is his well being and I can't understand why they won't respect this.

Every time his eyes starts to readjust, I leave him in someone's care, and his eyes look lazy. I'm so frustrated.

I was wondering if your MIL wears a lot of rings or wears bright colored nail polish. I was thinking this may cause your sons eyes to cross while he is getting a bottle.

Hi Jackie,

She doesn't wear any rings (except her wedding rings) and rarely has nail polish on. I think it is the way she feeds him the bottle. We are going to see a specialist for his eyes this Wednesday and I'll have to mention if that makes any difference. I remember when I was in the hospital right after he was born, we were told to rotate each side of the arm when you feed him due to this reason.

I hope he doesn't need glasses. That would be uncomfortable for a baby, but then again he would get used to them early. I agree with rotating which arm, I wasn't doing this at first and Emilie had a flat spot (really bad), but it's better now. Has he started holding his bottle? Emilie picked it up quickly, since it seemed I always had to give her one in the car. She didn't have much of a choice.
