Hi to Krystal and Jessica! As fate would have it, I just happened to check my account for the first time in months and saw your post just after you wrote it. It sounds like you have a great attitude and lots of love for your kids. I wish we lived closer, but we can still talk. My husband is from NY (nowhere near you, unfortunately) and I lived in the DC area for eight years, but we both settled in Colorado, where I grew up.
Our daughter is two years and three months and has Down Syndrome. She is awesome, sweet, lovable, smart and so many other things. We really got lucky. Her only physical issue when she was born was two very small holes in her heart that closed up over the course of several months. Alexis is very healthy and happy, thankfully. She has two therapists, one for OT/PT, one for music/speech. Both therapists are in denial about Alexis turning three soon and their services will end. They love her so much. It's easy to do.
Alexis can walk, though it's still not her top choice for getting from point A to point B. She can say "mama" and all sorts of other sounds, but her main way to communicate is sign language, which she knows about 50 words. I have really enjoyed learning sign language with her.
I hope we can continue sharing and even offer support if we need it. Thanks for sharing your story. Hope to hear from you soon! Julie |
