craddlecap...

my 12 week old daughter has had craddlecap for 4 weeks now and i've tried baby oil, craddlecap lotion, and just resently olive oil. I 've been combing it out but it just comes back by the next day! Its not too bad but it itches her and she scratches it in her sleep and now she got little scabs on her head. any tricks to get rid of it for good, and how long dose it take for treatments to start working? help!

You may want to check with your pediatrician. Both my babies had this but my sons kept coming back and it turned out eventhough I was breastfeeding him he has a milk and soy protein allergy which was causing it to reoccur. With my 2 year old daughter I found olive oil and aquafor/eucarin to be the best way to relive it

My daughter had the same problem. We took her to the pediatrician, who suggested that we use Selson Blue shampoo twice a week on her head. It took away most of it, but she still had this one spot that kept coming back. Finally, her pedi prescribed a steroid cream because it turned into an infection. The cream finally got rid of the cradle cap. I'd definitely talk to your pediatrician about it.

My son had this problem as an infant as well.  I tried several different methods, including putting lotion on and then combing it every night, and nothing seemed to work.  Finally, I tried Selson Blue (you have to be very careful to keep it away from their facce though since it will hurt their eyes if it gets in them).  After using it, I would use a baby comb (the fine-toothed kind) and comb his hair backwards.  After 2 days, it was gone.  For some babies, there may be an underlying cause, but I would suggest giving the shampoo a try and see if it works.  Make sure when you comb her hair that you do not do it to hard or to much though, as this can irritate her head.  I would comb it and get the pieces that came out easily but not force or pick at it.  I only had to use it the 2 times, and it never came back.  Good luck and I hope you find something that helps.  Like the others said, if you can not find something that works, talk to your pediatrician.  They may be able to tell you if there is an underlying cause, or if there is something else you can do

My little boy has had the same problem. A little vaseline (the kind comes in a tube) like a&d ointment, gooped on his head worked. Much like a really good conditioning treatment.I had to be sure to put a little hat on his head, or a towel under him because it soaked into everything. I left this on his head for 24 hours, and combed his hair backwards (opposite the growth direction) and then gave him a really good bath washing his head in a circular motion. I had to repeat this only about twice, and it worked wonders, without hurting his eyes with a strong shampoo meant for adults. the nice thing about the vaseline was it didn't run down his little face or back of his neck and stain his clothes, it would only soak into things like the swing, and carseat, and furniture, or my clothes. best of luck!
