Diaper rash???
Hi! I'm a FT mom of a 7 month old daughter. While changing her diaper this morning, I noticed her vagina region was awfully red. I'm not sure if this is from a diaper rash or what? I've been putting diaper rash cream on it, hoping that will help. Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

It could be diaper rash. Or a reaction to something else. Did you change brands of anything? diapers, wipes, soap? That could cause a rash as well. It could also be heat rash.

Well, I have started using Pampers Sensitive wipes on her. I had been just using dry wipes with water previously. I don't think its that though, because I just noticed this today, and have been using those for about a week or so. It might be heat rash, because she was in her car seat the other day for a couple of hours straight, and it does get extremely hot in her car seat. :-( Thanks for the reply!

redness can mean lots of things but i would wait a few days and if it doesnt go away, then visit the doc but sounds like nothing. my daughter gets red down there sometimes, i use vaseline so this way the urine doesnt burn her skin.

I worked in a pharmacy as a CPHT for the last ten years. My favorite Pharmacist gave me the best suggestion ever-- get over the counter clortimazole and .05% Hydrocortisone cream. Clean and dry the area and apply a dime size amount twice a day. My daughter is 20 months old and any time we see redness we apply this for 1-2 days and never had a major diaper rash. I asked my pedi and he said it was fine. You might want to check with your Doc though. I NEVER tell parents it is okay to do anything these are only MY EXPERIENCES.

My son had a diaper rash once and it was really red and wouldn't go away with regular diaper rash treatment. He had been sick previously and the doc said it could be a yeast infection, so yes I guess boys can get it to, but she had me put lotrimin, jsut the regular, on it. If you don't already know what that is it is for feet mainly I think its an antifungal, now I don't know if you would want to put it that close to her private area but around the general area would probably be okay but I would call your doc to double check. It cleared up in one day

Hi,
My daughter gets red there too sometimes, I use desitin and it clears up in a day. Has she been on antibiotics? They can cause a yeast infection.

if the cream doesnt help i'd take her to the doc to make sure it isnt a yeast infection. my son gets them in his groin a lot, and his doc says that lotsa babies get them, and they're pretty hard to get rid of until they're potty trained. but they can give you meds for her so it can bekept under control!! Hope it gets better!

I forget to add that I started using pampers babydry diapers and the sensitive wipes. Emilie keep getting rashes from the pampers crusers.

I use Pampers Sensitive wipes and Vaseline Baby Creamy Jelly as a protectant. These work really well for my daughter. I used to use Desitin, until I read an entire article about the long term safety issues involved with its usage. Vaseline is one of the safest creams out there. The website where I researched this information is www.cosmeticdatabase.com. It is really interesting!

Shawna
one of my twins gets diaper rashes often and BAD (bright red blistery, screams and shakes while I try to clean her, it is heart breaking) ...
usually for her it's when she eats acidic foods (like manderan oranges) or teething (some pedi's say no that is not the case but so many Mom's can you tell differently)

I use and swear by Balmex and at night I put PURE corn starch (from my kitchen cabinet) on them as well, since they will be in those wet diapers the longest

it helps my girls and within a day (they usually break out after maybe the 2nd or 3rd diaper of the day)

if after a few treatments (of any method) it does not clear up, then call her pedi about it and you may need something stronger or it could be something else.

During the summer rashes are pretty common, but never fun for you or baby

GOOD LUCK
Colleen
