August Reading

I just thought I would start a new post for this month to keep the old one from getting too long.

I just finished reading The Icebound Land by John Flanagan.  This is the third in a series.  It is a re-read for me but it was still really good.

Now I am reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.  I am only about 25 pages in but so far it is good.  It is a really simple read but thought provoking.  Here is the synopsis from barnesandnoble.com:

Paulo Coelho's enchanting novel has inspired a devoted following around the world. This story, dazzling in its simplicity and wisdom, is about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of treasure buried in the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an Alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles along the way But what starts out as a journey to find worldly goods turns into a meditation on the treasures found within. Lush, evocative, and deeply humane, the story of Santiago is art eternal testament to the transforming power of our dreams and the importance of listening to our hearts.

Ive been too busy to read anything worth mentioning. Ive been reading those thin harlequin romances lately. Something quick, and easy to put down.

A couple of days ago I finished Lover Unbound by J.R. Ward.  Loved that book.  I bought Lover Enshrined and I can't wait to start that one.

Right now I am reading The Beekeeper's Apprentice by Laurie R. King.  It is a mystery about Sherlock Holmes later in life.  He becomes a beekeeper and meets a 15-year-old girl named Mary Russell who becomes his friend and apprentice.  The beginning of the book kind of jumped around and seemed hurried for no apparent reason but now it is evening out a little bit and I am liking it more.  Hopefully it ends well because I would like to read others in the series.

I had to give up on Beekeeper's Apprentice for a while.  I don't know if I am really in the right mood to read it right now.  I was enjoying it but I kind of got bored with it.  I think I will try again later.  Now I am re-reading The Battle for Skandia by John Flanagan.  This is the fourth book in the Ranger's Apprentice series.  Good stuff.
