poor sleeper

Hi,

My 6 month old son only naps for 30 minutes in his crib and sleeps with me at night, waking up about every 2 hours for a "snack."  I have tried letting him cry it out in his crib for up to 20 minutes and it breaks my heart.  Does anyone have any other methods for getting them to sleep on their own and in their cribs?

Thanks,

Bridget

My daughter is also 6 months old.  My doctor told me that it's no longer necessary to feed her in the night for nutrition, so I started giving her a pacifier if she wakes up and her favorite stuffed bunny and patting her back until she falls back to sleep.  I do still feed her once in the night though, but it seems to have cut back on her waking up....

My daughter is four months old and only naps for a few minutes if I put her in her crib.  The only way to get her to nap sufficiently is to nap with her in my bed and nurse her the whole time.  It is really frustrating.  Luckily she sleeps in her crib at night. She was sleeping through the night for a while, but now she is waking up at least once.   I nurse her quickly back to sleep and put her back in her crib.  I know she does not need to nurse, it is just easier than to stay awake with her for an hour until she finally falls asleep.  There is a book called "Health Sleep Habits, Happy Child" that a friend gave to me.  It has some interesting ideas in it about sleep issues.  Maybe you could check it out at the library.

When my son was around 4 or 5 months my doc. told me that when he woke up in the night just listen to him because if I went right in then he wouldn't learn to put himself back to sleep. I tried the paciffier a few times but I got sick of getting up just to give it to him because he couldn't find it. I went to wal mart and bought him a sea horse that lights up and plays music, it has been a blessing and it was under 20 dollars. That is the biggest thing I can say is that once I got that he seemed to put himself back to sleep because i could go in and push it before his eyes opened so he just went back to sleep. Good luck
