question about tantrums
My son started throwing tantrums about 3-4 months ago. Well i was fine with it before. I would make sure he was safe and ignore him. He is really dramatic with it. Its almost funny. Throws himself on the floor, cries, the hole thing. Well he just started hitting himself. He hits himself in the face and if he has a toy in his hand he will hit himself with that. Im worried he will hurt himself. I try to show him be nice, be gentle and gently touch my arm. But when he is in the middle of a fit it doesn't work. Im worried. What should i do?

My son is 17 mos old, he throws fits but he will just plop on the floor and cry and wait for someone to come rescue him but he has started in the last couple of weeks hitting his cheeks, I kind of think its maybe his teeth bothering him or maybe becuase I have taken the pacifier away during the day and he only gets it at naps and bedtime has your son gone through any of that maybe???.

I know what you are going through. I have a boy that is 23 months old and he did the same thing. Eventually, for the most part, they grow out of that stage. Now Ethan will get upset and instead of trying to hurt himself with objects, he aims those objects at my 10 month old. At least you don't have that stress on you. What I do to deal with it, and it has worked for me, is I set up a playpen with no toys in it, and when he starts his tantrums I put him in the playpen, in another room seperate from me and James. When he stops crying I go and get him out. Always remember to talk to him about what is going on, eventually he will understand what is about to happen and he will usually stop when you say "Do you want me to put you in your playpen? Then I need you to stop hurting yourself".

My son is almost 17 months old and he hits me alot when he is mad or frustrated. I feel so bad that he gets that angry at me. I don't know what to do to stop it. You would think that I would seeing that I was a toddler teacher for 13 years but now that it is my own it is a whole other ball game. Any suggestions.
