Overwhelmed

Hi, My name is Erica I was feeling overwhelmed today with school work and family/home life, my son is extremly overactive and constently hitting bitting or breaking something he can be the sweetest child but is very agressive and wild. I turned to the internet and found this and already feeling better. I talked to my doctor and she said she thought that he just has an extreme case of terrible twos but he is almost three. He is hitting and surpasing all milstones but he is so extreme sometimes its overbearing. Anyone have suggestions??

Hi Erica,

My son has ADHD and has been extremely active since birth. We didn't have as many hitting and bitting problems as you but we did have (and still do) have some discipline problems.

Two books have really helped me:

1-2-3 Magic by Thomas Phelan (he also does seminars, you can go to www.parentmagic.com for the schedule). I read this book and both my husband and I went to a seminar of his.

Raising Your Spirited Child by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka. There is also a Raising Your Spirited Child Workbook. I have both.

I have read TONS of parenting books and these two are by far the best. They are practical, easy to use, and will make you and your child feel good about your relationship.

During the toughest times, I always remember these things:

- Progress, not perfection.

- Be your child's biggest cheerleader.

Hope that helps.

Thanks,
Tina
