New Christian...in need of guidance!

Hello! I am fairly new to being a christian, i was at one time, very religious, and am starting to get back into it. I still am not sure how i fit in, into the world, and life itself. I believe there is a god, and i want to know him better. i just joined a church in my hometown and it is wonderfull, i have new friends, and all, but i am looking for something more. A deeper relationship with god, a true understanding of him and his work. I love my church but being new i am still to shy to ask the minister for help with this situation. I just need a little guidance on how to have a truly intimate relationship with god.

Thank you for listening, understanding, and helping!

Hi Mallory -

Welcome to the group.  :)

That is wonderful you want to renew and deepen your relationship with God!

Our church offers (and I am a part of) the Alpha course and I highly recommend it!

Here is the link to their site.  http://alphausa.org/

Check it out, see if your church offers it, if they don't maybe a church nearby you does.

It is a GREAT course and it answers so many questions that all of us have no matter where we are in our journey.

Blessings -

Cathy

Hi Mallory,

Nice to meet you.  I have been saved now for 16 years.  I love the Lord with all that I am.  I always tell people that I am NOT religious.  Being religious to me means that you do something repeatedly, sometimes just b/c you've done it before, b/c your parents have done it, etc.  I have a personal relationship with my father, the creator of heaven and earth, his son, Jesus and his spirit.

The word teaches us that we are all beautifully and wonderfully made.  In His word, you will find your sense of worth and your sense of self.  You will find all the confidence and self esteem you will ever need.  Continue to study his word, continue to learn more scriptures and hold fast to them.  You will eventually have no doubt about who you are as a person and who you are in the Lord.

Your intimacy will start with your personal time, your prayer time, don't make it a choir.  Have fun with God, he has a great sense of humor and he loves you more than you will ever conceive.  Find some truly enjoyable gospel and just talk to him while you listen to his word and jam in your car, while you clean, any and every opportunity you get.

I hope that helps.  Be Blessed!

In his service.......Audrey

Well I always recommend starting with the Psalms.  It's kind of like reading poetry.  Also, go to a Christian bookstore and get a good Bible study.  Does your church offer any Bible studies besides Sunday mornings?  If so, think about attending those!

You may want to buy or borrow some good christian books to read.  There are many good and touching testimonies as how believers walk right with God and have close relationship with Him.   First thing in the morning, kneel down and talk to God.  Next ask God to speak to you through His word, the bible.  Do this every day consistently, surely you will never want to miss Him.  You just want to talk to Him, walk with Him and hear from him.  In the book of Joshua 1:8 :- The Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but meditate His word deligently in the day and night, and He will make your way prosperous, and then you will have a good success.  Both spiritually and everything He entrusted you.  May you be success in God's eyes.

My Bible study teacher recommended starting with Matthew chapter 5 because it tells us exactly what God and Jesus are about.
