Eczema

Hello,

My daughter is one and she is suffering from what the doctors have called eczema.  She wants to scratch constantly to the point where I keep gloves on her hands and her skin stays dry.  I have purchased expensive lotions and soaps, to know avail.  The doctors say to keep her skin moisterized, but it doesn't seem to help, but I think it may something internal.  Has anyone else suffered from something similiar?  I don't want my little girl to keep suffering.

Hi,

Im in the same boat as you to, my daughter is 5 months old and I have to keep gloves on her hands because she itches her hands so bad where they bleed..Im surprise the doctor didn't suscribe your daughter with a medicine cream..they had suscribe my little girl with Hydrocortisone cream USP 2.5% I put just alittle of that on her hands and then put the gloves on, and it works great her skin isn't dry anymore..If your daughter puts her hands in her mouth constantly like my daughter does it gets dry..I would ask your doctor to suscribe it to you..you will be very amazed I hope this helps for you.

i as well as my two children (23 months and 6 months) suffer from this. i can tell u that there are certain triggers that cause it to be worse such as excessive washing as well as stress however the main cause in infants is allergies especially milk allergies as a matter of fact this is one of the number one signs of a milk allergy so i would discuss this with your doctor as well so that you can rule it out. over the years i have tried numerous creams in all price ranges including hydrocortisone which at least in my case provides short term relief the best thing in my opinion is Aquaphor they have a cream as well as a bath/body wash which is what i have been using on my babies and it has helped tremendously! i hope your little one feels better soon feel free to messange me if i can be of any further help!

My 2 yr old had a bout of eczema when she was 7-8 months and we determined it was due to dust mites. Literally she had it all over her back, behind the knees, elbows, and on the face. So, we got an air purifier for her room and cleaned her sheets weekly. I used California Baby Calendula lotion and her eczema cleared up within 2 weeks and never came back; knock on wood. I steered away from the pediatrican's recommendation of the steriod creams, that stuff is too strong on baby's delicate skin.

Now, my sister's children (2 of her 3) have severe eczema and they all have food allergies which causes their eczema. They've tried everything (steriod creams and all) topical to no avail but are now  seeing an acupuncturist and it is looking like it's helping with their eczema. Her children are 4 and 6 years.

Don't give up, good luck!

Thanks for all your advice for my daughter.  We did see an allergist and it looks like she is allergic to milk, corn, dust mites, dogs and cats.  We switch her formula to soy milk, but doesn't seem to help.  I use the Aquaphor several times a day, but I will try to California Baby Calendula Lotion. I hope to get her some relief soon. :(

you can talk to your daughters dr about this but sometimes children with a milk allergy can also not handle soy formula something about the same protein causing the allergic reaction being in soy milk as well (you can find out more about this by googling it) they may need to switch her to a hypoallergenic formula like Similac Alimentium or enfamil nutramagin they are rather pricey but can be worth the benefits!
