NEVER punish for accidents, they are accidents unintentionally done. She is very young for potty training. But then again there are some children (including me according to my mom) who potty train by 16 month old.
I am potty training my daughter now, we use easy Ups(pampers) I just tell her every other hour "do you want pee pee in the potty?". You have to realize for how long does she wet a diaper; I mean for how long does she stays dry. That is how many times you take her to potty. She will probably refuse to do it. That is ok, the key here is consistency, always ask and take her to potty, if she does it great, if not great too. At least You are getting her used to it. If she pees give her a sticker or something she likes (NO CANDYbas she will outsmart you, trust me on that). If she poos then give her an extra special sticker.
When you notice she gets comfortable using the potty and more frequently, then change her into panties. Take her to the store and let her choose the ones she likes. Do this when she tells you she wants to pee pee in the potty and she holds it, otherwise she would probably pee on them and therefore she is not ready yet for this last step. At night always use pull ups or normal diaper. The body at this age is not ready yet to hold it as an adult does.
I heard from other mothers that it takes them up to 2 weeks to train if they are really commited to it, that means not going out and be in the house all the time. Others don't use diapers at all and let them bare naked on a weekend. You still have time until you baby arrives. Also since your little one is now only 15 months old, she probably doesn't talk much yet. So take it slowly, let her watch you use your potty, do the potty dance with her, watch the elmo potty video, let her get use to having the potty around.
But remember never punish for accidents. |
