I personaly haven't dealt with this issue, but my sister has as well as my cousins. I don't know if every child is different based on the severity of the ear but my cousins have had their in for years and my sisters son had them taken out because he needed further sugery(he's hard of hearing with hearing-aids) but I remember when they put them in my nephew they said they would be in perminently. So again, I don't really know if it is different for every child but I really wouldn't be worried. I don't think they can hurt your child, but I would call and speak to a nurse about it(we hardly ever get the doctor). I would ask your son if he's having any trouble hearing out of that ear because I know my nephews were removed because water built up behind the tube. They said it was rear, but it does happen. And with him it caused more perminent hearing loss. I wouldn't worry though, he had issues from birth...I would just call the office and tell them you would like them to be looked at to see if they should come out. Even though the Pedi didn't address it at the check up doesn't mean that he didn't accidently over look it. I have 3 boys and the one thing I've learned is that you have to be on top of the doctors. I LOVE my pedi. office but they do have alot of children and it doesn't hurt to give them a reminder and voice your concern. Mother does always know best. Good luck and I would like to hear how everything turns out.All my best-Heidi |
