I was just wanting a little feedback from other moms on the differences in your little ones:
First, when did your babies start saying "mama" or "dada"? And did they say it constantly or start and then stop or did they not say it until they knew what it meant?
Second, when did your little ones go from two naps down to one?
I figure every child is different, but these are things that are questioning in my mind right now. Our son has just turned 10 mo. and babbles contantly, but doesn't really say many consonant sounds. Our pedi said not to worry, it'll come and that his soft palate looks well formed and high..so it should just be a matter of time. Am I just being impatient for words? And then with the napping. I am SO not ready for him to stop taking two naps, but they are getting shorter and he is a little more reluctant to go down for them both. When should I give up the fight and let him just take the one? What has been everyone's experiences with these two things? |

Hey Kelly, I have three and your right everyone is different! Mine started mama & dada as early as 7months but, as late as 12months to hear it constantly, and from 2 naps to 1 started phasing out at around 12months but, as late as 18-20 months, it all depends. Just try your best to be patient and I wouldn't worry, and once they start talking they'll never stop! |

Hi Kelly, My son starting saying DaDa when he was about 7 months, however, he did NOT know what he was saying because he DaDa'd for everything. Then he stopped. He said MaMa at 11 months and it was directed at me. He is now 14 months and says MaMa, DaDa, WaWa (his grandmother), and various animal sounds. But, thats about it. He communicates really well, just not with words : ) As for napping, he recently within the past two months went to one nap. But, his one nap is for about an hour and a half to two hours, so that's not too bad : ) Hope this was helpful : ) Allison |

Aren't naps the biggest challenge??? I am wondering the same thing. Fiona is 14mo & I am thinking she is almost ready to go to 1 nap. I am not sure if I am!! I like napping when she does. :) As for words, Fiona said Mama & Papa & knew who we were at about 6mo. She says about 20words. Physically, tho, she has been a little slower. She is just starting to walk. I guess they do there own thing at their own rate! |

thanks guys! Micah has just done most things pretty quickly. He started walking @ 9 mo.! He seems to understand a whole lot of what I am saying, but isn't using his own words yet. |

Both my son and my daughter went from 2 naps to one nap right around their 1st year birthday. My son's first words were, "Wha's that"? at 12 months. My daughter said 'Mama" at 11months, but indiscriminately. |

Hi, Every child is different and by reading the other moms responses i can see that my child is different than others. My son is 6 1/2 months and he started saying da'da at 5 months old and now he says dada, daddy, hi, and yep. He knows what daddy means and he even waves his hand when he says hi. My parents think he is a very intellegent child and i'm beginning to think the same. I'm not sure if this had anything to do with it, but i played classical music the whole time i was pregnant and I play it in his room at night while he sleeps and most of his leap frog toys play classical music too. He usually takes 2-3 naps per day, some 30 minutes long and some times he takes 2 hour naps. It just depends on the day he has had. So don't worry, every child moves at his/her own pace. |

Hi Kelly, My son just turned 10 months old and is still not saying Mama or Dada. I try everyday to get him to say it, it seems like when I say Dada he's looking for my husband but who knows. He does babble alot and has become very active. He just started pulling himself up last week and climbing stairs. Nicholas is still taking 2 naps and sometimes 3. I don't think he's ready to go down to 1 yet. Hope this helps you. |
