New to Area

Hi all!

I just moved here last week, following my husband who is completing his doctoral work. I have a 20 mo. old toddler and am expecting another boy in just over three weeks... and I don't know ANYONE.

Where does one go to meet other moms around here? I live between Harvard Sq. and Inman and pretty much anything would need to be within walking distance or on the bus line. I'm interested in playgroups, meet-ups, other moms (nights out), childcare swapping, art activities for the little ones (the 20 mo. old and I paint nearly daily), stroller walking, or any advice you might toss my way.

Hi Jennifer,

Welcome! Where are you coming from? I got here this fall and and have found several useful things. I'll list them below.

That said, I'd love to meet for a mom's night out or for some art fun sometime if you are interested. I have 34 mo. old b/g twins.

Best,

Kristin

For meeting other moms:

The City of Cambridge has playgroups;

Isis Maternity has great groups for moms and kids and just moms/dads;

Together in motion has fun "gym" classes for kids, they also have Music Together classes

The new main library is a great resource near you. They also have story time and mom's book club.

There is a yahoo group called cambridgefamilies; somervillemoms is another good one.

Other perhaps useful tidbits:

Agaziz Preschool has a great list of Cambridge parks, with descriptions;

Speaking of preschools, you might want to start checking them out--applications start in October if that is something you plan on doing;

Full Moon is a restaurant in Huron Village that is good for parents and kids alike. They cater to families. Accessible by bus.

You can take the train to a great Audubon farm in Lexington called the Drumlin Farm. It is a short hike from the train station, but it would be doable with a stroller. Maybe for the fall when your wee one to be will be older. Check it out of Googlemaps first.

There is a fantastic playground in the Cambridge Common (Harvard Common?)
