Lora,
I think you need to consider focusing on what you are looking for as far as work-at-home goes. Are you considering a WAH job, or a WAH business? You mentioned both of them.
WAH jobs are really tough to find because the competition for them is fierce. Do you have any talents/skills/advantages that would make you stand out? You should think outside the box and get creative in what area you would work in.
Work-at-home businesses require much more dedication, consistency and investment... although, if you are smart, that investment is more of your time and effort, and less of your money. They are obviously NOT for everyone. Not everyone is disciplined enough or wants to get ahead enough to put in the time and effort. It is generally not because they don't know enough people. It's really not who you know, but who you can get to know.
I think before too much more time goes by, you should do some soul-searching and write out a clear plan of what you want and how you want to get it. There are many really good books out there and you might consider getting your hands on some. I would recommend Make A Living Without A Job by Barbara Winter as a good jumping off point to figure out what you want.
A disclaimer: I have been in several work-at-home businesses, off and on, over the last 18 years (as well as being successfully, traditionally employed) and failed.... until I joined Melaleuca last year.
I have to gently point out a couple of things that are not quite right. People who work with Melaleuca do marketing and customer service, not direct sales and there is no risk to join with them. Everything has money-back guarantees... including the $29 business kit.
I love working from home and I hope everyone who really wants it finds just what they are looking for. My best to you in your journey and I hope my suggestions help!
