Rubbing His Ear
My son has been rubbing his left ear a lot lately. He doesn't seem to be uncomfortable or anything and he's been sleeping pretty good at night, but I don't know why he's doing that. What are the common signs for an ear infection? He doesn't go to the doctor for another month, but if I should be concerned, then I don't want to wait that long.

Hi jackie,
I would take him and have it checked, the rubbing could be an early sign of an ear infection.

Its heard to tell because he is so young. It could also be due to teething. Is he running a fever? Some other symptoms are loss of appetite and irritable. However it won't hurt to call the dr just to be sure.

He's not really irritable and his appetite is fine. I don't believe he is teething, but I don't really know what I'm looking for since he doesn't have any teeth at the moment. He was hot today, but I think that was due to the heat and humidity. My doctor has Saturday hours, so maybe I'll call in the morning.

Better safe than sorry. It could just be that he's interested in his ear!

Hey J
My son did the same thing and still sometimes does and he never (knock on wood) had a ear infection I thinkit is just somehting they do. If he is not cranky and is eating and sleeping fine it is nothing. i would keep my eye on him though of course.

I called the pediatrician's office this morning and they had me make an appointment for him later that morning just in case. Good news, he doesn't have an ear infection, but I did find out he was teething.

Hey Jackie!

That's exactly what I was thinking. James went through the same thing and I brought him to the doctor's office. Two days later two new teeth came out. I hope you are doing well and congratulations. You and your husband will be full of joy when you see that new tooth/teeth. :)
