Diaper Rash will NOT go away

Hi everyone. I am desparate for any help / advise anyone can give me. My little girl (will turn 16 months on March 20) has had severe diaper rash on her private parts for 4 months now. We tried EVERYTHING. And when I say EVERYTHING I really mean it. We have been to her pediatrician, dematologist AND allergist (yesterday). Originally I believe it started after I had to take antibiotics and was still breastfeeding (I weaned her completely about a month after rash started). Maybe it wasn't the reason, but I think it was. Her pediatrician told us it was Candida (yeast) and prescribed vusion ointment. In 2 weeks it did not help much, so pediatrician told us to stop using vusion and just use Butt Paste. This is the diaper rash cream he thought was the best. Now I was using Weleda diaper rash cream since she was born with no problems, but I followed pediatrician's advise and used Butt Paste for a bit. It did not seam to make much difference. We were then referred to dermatologist and have been going to her for the past month and a half. She has been prescribing variation of Nystatin (antifungal) and corticotizone creams, first to use separately on top of each other, then in one tube and stronger. The diaper rash cream she told us to use is Triple Paste. We have been also trying some oils (like tea tree and lavender). We have tried other creams as well (like California Baby, which made things worse, Mei Mei, the australian cream, which did not really help either). For the past 2 weeks or so we have been using presciption cream (nystatin and triamcinolone) and Tripple Paste. Now with this prescription cream the rash seams to get better and then worse again. It is always the same cycle. But it never goes away completely. We have also changed diapers several times, finallys stopping on Huggies Naturals. We change her all the time, very frequently and also leave her without diaper a lot. We have started potty training but so far unsuccessfully. Allergist says it is NOT food or cat allergy (we have a cat), but took blood test just in case. We have appointment with dermatologist this coming Sunday and she says biopsy has to be done now. I am terrified!

Does anyone know of any "miracle" cures or any other suggestions? Has anyone gone through something like this and had to have biopsy on their baby done?

Thanks!

Hi,   believe it or not, I went back to using\ the good old Baby Vaseline and that cleared up the bad diaper rash my son had.  We still use triple paste in between, but baby vaseline seemed to take care of it within a few days and helped ease the pain and redness.

I like A&D that works the best for me and my daughter.

HI,

it seems you have rash + fungi.

I would say to avoid cleaning up with baby wipes. Try to clean with cotton balls and water. Then dry the skin with some "cotton fabric" and let you baby without diaper for a while to make sure the skin is really dry. Then use a Zinc Oxide cream and some Baby Powder on the top. Keep doing this until the diaper rash is gonne and the skin looks better. Then I'm afraid you'll have to treat the Candida with Nystatin (antifungal) and corticotizone creams. It worked for me in the past with my twins.

I have a little girl (7 months) and she never has any diaper rash. I use cotton balls and water to clean her at home and baby wipes when I'm out. Then I put some Baby Powder (Jonhson).

Good luck!

Hi Anastasia! My daughter is 17 months old with highly sensitve skin. Before we realized her skin was so sensitve (within her first couple of months), she got bad diaper rash that wouldn't go away. We started using wipes for sensitive skin--that helped but didn't eliminate the diaper rash. Her pediatrician recommended that we use just a wet wash cloth to clean her. Since we started doing that she has stayed diaper rash free.

All the above suggestions are good to try. (although there's probably very little you haven't tried) Good luck finding something that works!
