Monica, my child is now weighing 36 pounds and she is 4 1/2 years old. She still fits in size 3 or size 4 clothing. But, then again, she was born premature. She is healthy and about to enter kindergarten in a couple of weeks.
Children know whether they are hungry or full. My daughter eats like a mouse. She picks here and there, and that's it. You can not get her to eat. Some days she doesn't even eat dinner. But by lunch time the next day, she is very hungry. But that's it.
I just looked at your daughters pictures and she looks healthy & adorable.
Remember to always offer her something, and it sounds like you are doing that already. You are a great mom and don't doubt that you are doing something wrong in raising a healthy child.
Did your doctor tell you she was underweight? Did someone tell you that your child was underweight?

Don't worry yourself as long as she'e eating balanced meals little by little she'll be fine.Remember her little stomach is only about the size of her fist and if she active that's probably why she;s not gaining a lot of weight. |

Hello. I have this same annoying problem with my son. It seems like the simple solution is to let the kid get hungry and they will eat on their own just like magic. Maybe if your kid was typical and not having this issue it may be just that easy. As someone who struggles daily with this problem, I understand your fear and frustration. My son has a few things going on that make it beyond just being picky. First, my son has a sensory processing issue. Food that is normally acceptable to almost all people is not for him because it is too sticky, thick, thin, hot, cold, spicey, smelly or whatever weird thing is wrong with the food for him. Second, and I just found this out a few days ago and came here to see if I could find help for it, my son has food allergies. I never in my wildest dreams thought my son had food allergies. He has had chronic ear infections and asthma, but he has never ever had trouble digesting milk which he has a severe allergy to. Not eating is a very serious problem for parents who have to struggle with it. You might consider asking your doctor for a referal for an "occupational therapy" evaluation. An occupational therapist can tell you if it is sensory related and then you can try to work out the problem. I would also ask for an allergy test. I have been asking my doctor for one for 1 1/2 years now and he kept saying my son was "too young". I changed doctors. The first allergy test is a blood screening and they just need to do a blood draw to determine if a major allergy exists. My next step is a meeting with a dietician to try to work through our problems. I guess my advice to you is find out if it is more than just being picky. If it is more than just picky you might need extra help working through this problem. I know you are doing your best, so don't feel bad if some people just don't get it. Personally I think your daughter's food items sound limited and I get that you have a problem. Good luck! I am still working through this problem with my son. You are not alone. |
