My son is not SLEEPING!

My son Aiden is six months old, and still gets up every night. Sometimes only once but mostly he is still up twice a night. He he usually wont sleep until I give him a full bottle. Is it my fault that he still wakes up? because I always give him a bottle. What do I do?

At six months he should be able to go through the night without a bottle. I would start  by taking away one at a time.  There are several methods of "sleep training" and most suggest you don't begin until a baby is at least 6 months old, so I think you're doing okay :)  I would try reading some books or google-ing "sleep training for infants" and check out some different methods. We used the "controlled crying" method for our son, and it worked like a charm.  It took a little while for him to get the hang of it, but now he sleeps great (he's 16 months).

Hi Michelle,

You might also want to consider his solids intake. Perhaps, he's not getting enough food at his last meal, right before bedtime. It's a guess. My Liam is 7 months old, and he seems to eat up EVERYTHING!

I agree, as well, with Bethany, sometimes it is sleep training that children need. Hope it works out for you!

Hi Michelle and girls, I'm having the same problem. My 6 months girl does not sleep through the night. I don't think she makes any difference between night and day. She usually sleeps at 10pm and wakes up at 12, 3am, 5am, 7am. And during the day she normally take 3 naps of not more than 30min. It's crazy !!!!

Maybe she is hungry.... and I'm also having problem with feeding her. She still breastfeed and does not have anything else. I already tried different juices in different bottles. I already tried different foods. She closes her mounth and put everything out. I'm getting worried. My twins (now 2 years old) used to sleep through the night at 4.5 months and take long naps during the day. And they did not have problems with food or drinking.

Any suggestion? Thanks

My daughter was the same way. She'd get up or a bottle sometimes two until she was 9-10 months old. Honestly you can't do anything, if you child is hungry they need to be feed.

At 11 months I gave her a water bottle during the night because I was worried about the amount of milk she was drinking. You may want to try that. It did help us go from 2 bottles at night to 1. Now my daughter is 13 months and she sleeps throught the night on her own. She's eating enough solids to sustain herself.

I was grateful that a bottle would settle her back down. I know some mother's who children at 6 months won't sleep for more than 3 hours at a time. I feel bad for them and was greatful for my little bottle a night.

I did get a lot of flack from others for still giving her a bottle, but it's what we needed to get through happily.

Hope this helps. Just know that all kids are different and need different things including different intake of foods. All mothers with multiple kids have stories of how different most of them are.

Becki thats how my baby was too. She is 13months now and sleeps all night with out a bottle but that just started 2 months or less before that it was 2bottles a night. Now she eats everything in sight lol. So she dont extra bottles at night.
