Is IUD worth it???
Ok, now I am freaked out....I am supposed to get my IUD in 2 weeks, but after reading everything from a previous posting about IUD's, I'm not so sure I want to get it anymore! I am still breastfeeding by pumping and so have not had my period even come back yet......will getting this make me have one again? Has anyone gotten the Mirena while still nursing and if so, did it have the same spotting effects?

I got the Mirena almost 7 months ago and I am nursing. I still have not had a period and spotted very little. Everyone reacts to birth control differently, but I feel like I have had little to no side effects. My skin does break out a little more about once a month (prob when I would get my period anyway). But I really like it.

I have the Mirena and had it inserted when my baby was 2 months. She is now 3 1/2 months. I do get the spotting, and felt a bit weezy in the beginning & small cramps like a period for about a week or two. I love it because I do not have to take a pill everyday. In the last posting somebody said that about a year the spotting fades. I hope that happens, that is the only thing I hate about it. The spotting! I am breastfeeding/bottlefeeding at the same time. Everybody reacts differently! Is there a reason why you do not want to take the pill instead?

I just thought it would be easier, but it kind of sounds like a pain....

I have a Mirena inserted I think when my son was two months (mom's brain makes me forget the exact timeframe), and at first I wanted it OUT. I felt crampy, and the thought of it sitting in there freaked me out a bit. My OB/GYN talked it over with me and we decided to give it a bit more time. After a few more weeks, I didn't even realize it was there, and while I did have some spotting for several weeks when it was first inserted, it stopped and I haven't had a period (knock on wood) for months. I'm also still nursing (son is about nine months). But, it's sooooo nice to have a birth control method you don't have to think about. I've read good and bad things about this particular IUD, so do what you feel comfortable with... and even if you decide to get it, you can always have it removed!

i unfortunately had the mirena when my daughter was about 2 months old. it was the biggest mistake of my life. i was doing ok with it for awhile (worry free birth control who wouldnt love it) until i noticed i was losing my hair. im 19 years old and had to experience losing my hair. rapidly. i couldnt figure out what was causing it, my doctors thought it was because i gave birth recently until they saw how much i was losing. i would wake up with small clumps of hair on my pillow. it was honestly terrifying, i couldnt describe it any better. eventually i called mirena to see if the iud would even pose an issue, of course thinking they would say no, as my doctors never heard of this. mirena told me "hair loss is a symptom sometimes" the worst sentence ive heard in awhile. they assured me it was rare and only happened in about 1 and 1000 or so cases but then i looked into it. it turns out there are many online support groups for women who went completely bald from this iud. many many women. more than the company will admit to. and alot of the time the hair never grew back. luckily for me, my hair is growing back and the only part you can tell is in the front on the top of my head where i have a bunch of like 3 inch long hairs. but even that is enough to make me insecure. please dont get this. aside from the hairloss, your putting hormones into your body that arent meant to be in that form or dosage. theres a reason God (or whomever you believe in) gave you periods and your hormones, messing with them can cause so many things including cancer. unfortunately for me and many others, we found out the hard way but i hope this helps you. and if you still get it atleast check your hair everyonce in awhile and as soon as it becomes thinner (esspecially around the front of the top of the head (like a receding hairline)) get it taken out immediately. its not worth it. look into more natural means, ie. diaphragm (no hormones or cancer) or condoms (men's uncomfortability wont cause them cancer or hairloss). hope this helps
