Trying to start table food.

My son, who already has some quirks of his own, refuses to eat ANY table foods. His doctor said it was time for him to start like a month or so ago and anytime I try to give him something as soon as it touches his tongue, or even before, he starts gaging and has even made himself throw up. I've tried the little dissolvable baby food things and cheerios, mashed potatoes, even the baby jarred foods that have chunks of veggies he refuses. Any ideas?

He may need to see a speech therapist to have him checked out. They can see if there is something physically wrong as to why he gags and they can do therapy to hp him. You will need a script from your pedi.

If you haven't already, I would suggest giving him yogurt melts and puffs.  That's what I starting giving both my girls when the all clear was given.  Just put some on the highchair tray while you feed him and just forget about them.  If he eats them, great, if not, just take them when you get him out of the highchair.  Just start putting them on the tray everytime he is in the highchair and let him find them on his own.  Good luck.

I have tried the little yogurt melts and cereal puffs. I'm just going to keep trying though. Eventually he's bound to like something.

My daughter has never gagged with food but she HATED baby food. After a month she LITERALLY REFUSED to eat baby food. I had to start making her food. Her Pedi said it was fine to wait until she had a few teeth and could mash food to start. I waited until then and then I started making things for her to eat that were soft and that she could easily mush. Like diced steamed carrots, diced potatoes, steamed broccoli (cut really small), peas, corn....things like that. For her it was a texture thing. She hated the blandness of the foods as well so I started about 3 months ago introducing her to flavored foods. Ethnic foods mostly. Dirty rice, vietnamese noodle soups (with the soft rice noodles), fried rice, mexican rice...all those yummy things. She actually loves all sorts of flavors and things. Even to this day if I try to give her something without flavors (like garlic and stuff) she won't eat em.

Just this morning she had grits cooked in chicken stock with cheese and butter for breakfast. For lunch I made her steamed green beans, carrots, and corn together with a garlic butter over the top, and she had a little lemon pepper fish that I had left over from my dinner last night. Maybe you should try introducing flavors to him. And try the different textures. I'd talk to the Pedi first before introducing him to anything that's not mashed though.
