HELP!!

My almost 3 year old is constantly putting things in her mouth.  It's gotten worse over the last month or so.  She didn't really have a pacifier when she was an infant, and she broke the bottle habit by 15 months.  But she puts anything and everything in her mouth from pennies, to marbles, to balloons.  She even pulls her hairbands out and puts those in her mouth.  Anyone else encounterd this problem?  I can't get her to stop.  I've tried timeouts, i've tried taking the toys away for a while, i've even tried spanking to get her to stop but nothing works.  I'm so afraid she's gonna choke on something.

My daughter's much younger but could it be a teething issue? I'm not sure cause I've not hit the 3 point yet but when my daughters teething EVERYTHING goes into the mouth. If it's teething they have these pacifer shaped things that are meant for teething. My daughter has hated the Paci from the get go but the teethers she LOVES. She'll spend the entire day with it in her hand and chewing on it. It's the only thing I've found that keeps everything else from being put into her mouth.

my son is 2 and he didn't take a pacifier as a baby either, he had gotten hsi first tooth at 4mo and by 18mo he had ALL 20 of his teeth so he had his fingers and hands in his mouth till then and then didn't really do it much after 18mo but once he turned 2 he started putting his fingers back in his mouth and its driving me nuts.  My hubby bites his nails and I use to but I haven't since before we got Pregnant BUT he does see his daddy bite his nails so I think thats what he's doing when his fingers are in his mouth.  We just have to keep telling him to keep his hands out of his mouth...I tell him its EWW and its gross so when he sees daddy biting his nails he says 'eww daddy, gross!' but then does it himself.  It may just be a habit you have to break.  Get the gross tasting nail polish? or the hotsauce stuff?
