Hello! What is the earliest age to start a baby on cereal in a bottle? She is 10 weeks old and waking up every 1 1/2 screaming like shes hungry. I think she just doesn't feel satisfied so I was wondering if cereal might help. She is getting bottles with pumped breast milk. Thanks for any advice! |

Have you checked with your pediatrician to see if there is something else going on?
My son was eating every 1.5 - 2 hours for the first three months. He is also in the 90% for his weight/age too. Do you give you baby any formula? I found that when he was eating that often, if I gave him a bottle of formula right before bed, he would generally sleep longer before wanting to eat again. Breastmilk is light and not as thick as formula, so it's easier to digest. Or something like that. |

I agree, i would talk to your pedi about it. Most dr.s suggest not to put cereal in the bottle unless she is starting to loose weight or something like that. Putting cereal in the bottle will make it a lot harder to get them to eat from a spoon once you do start giving her cereal and other first foods. There may be something else going on besides just being hungry. And personally i think 10 weeks is way to early to start cereal, their stomaches are still so new that cereal at this age could actually cause more problems, like constipation. |

I am just the nanny! She has reflux too. She is also starting to teeth. Shes got a white dot on her gums. She only gets breast milk. She weighs 12 lbs and looks chunky and I think shes in the 75th percentile. She justs cries a lot and I feel like somethings wrong but the doctor says shes totally healthy. I don't know. Its frustrating not being able to comfort her when shes screaming. |

I would talk to your pediatrician as well. My doctor told me that new research was showing that eating rice cereal actually did not help with sleeping. He also said that babies under 6 months were too young to digest and received nutrients from the rice anyway. Ask your doc and see what he says. I was feeding my son formula every two hours at that age. Dr. Brown's bottles really helped him, too. With these bottles he was getting more formula and less air in his tummy. |

Up until he was about 3 months old, my son had three modes....cry, eat, and sleep. When they are uncomfortable, they will cry and it can be anything that causes it. It'll get better, just don't get too frustrated.
I would also check to see if the baby is constipated. I took me a bit to figure out what I could and could not eat. I was drinking a lot of apple juice, having broccoli, and milk and all of that was giving my son trouble. |

Is the white dot on her gums actually a tooth coming in? My baby had white spots on her tongue and the inside of her mouth and it turned out to be thrush - a yeast infection. It made it uncomfortable for her to eat. If it is something like that she may not be feeding enough at a time because it is uncomfortable. |

Similac makes a formula for 0-12 months called A.R. It means Added Rice. Its rice starch and is supposed to help with spit up. It is a little thicker and sets on their stomach a little longer. I have a 6 week old and I put about 1 tsp of cereal in his bottle right before bed. He sleeps about 5 hours through the night until he eats again. He is taking 4 oz. every 3-3 1/2 hours. Maybe you should try |

I started putting cereal in my sons bottle at 10 weeks, and started feeding him solids at 12. Theres nothing wrong with even mixing some basic fruits (applesauce, banannas, pears..) in with the cereal when you start. Hope this helps! |

i put cereal in my baby's bottle at 10 weeks and it helped her stay full longer and sleep better. I have had no problems with this, she is 4 months now and will be starting solids. Good luck |

Hi, I would have the mother talk to the baby's doctore and ask if cereal would be okay. I have a 6 month old and my peditrician said not to start the baby on cereal until he was 4 months. I was breastfeeding only and my son would be hungry every 1.5 - 2 hours, so i started breastfeeding 1st thing in the morning, formula through out the day, and then breast feeding last thing at night. I'd try formula with Iron, before cereal. Babies systems aren't ready for cereal yet. Good luck! |
