potty training?!?!
Hi, I'm new to the group. Does anyone have any tips on potty training my 3 year old. I've been trying now for a year, the doctor says its perfecly normal but it just seems like she's never going to be ready. Her older sister was all trained at 2 yrs old and I am now starting to train my 2 year old as well. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I am a consultant for Usborne Books and More.  We have a new book available titled A Guide to Potty Training.  The following link should take you right to the book:

http://www.myubam.com/ecommerce/details.asp?sid=L2137&gid=92285833&title=Guide+to+Potty+Training+IR&sqlwhere=submit%3Dsearch%26search%3Dpotty%2Btraining

If that link doesn't work, you can go to www.inspiring2read.com and search for "A Guide to Potty Training."

Good luck to you and I hope you find the help you need.

"Toilet Training in Less Than a Day" by Nathan Azrin

My Dr.(who is the mother of 5 kids!!!)  told me about it and it worked for both my kids! (a boy and a girl)

Thanx so much! I'm going to go look for the books tonight, she wants to go to preschool this year but she can't if she's not 100% potty trained

Hi Dawn,

I used a rewards chart with my daughter and justkept reminding her that if she wanted to go to school she would have to be able to go in the potty all day.  That was enough for her and she goes in the bathroom all day now, no more pull-ups.  You may want to try that before spending money on books.  That might just be the reward she needs to follow through.  Good luck, either way.

I used stickers with my first son but since my second was not motivated by stickers at all, chocolate worked but I only needed it for about a week. I pushed my first son concerned that he had to be potty trained by time he was 3 to move from his montessori toddler class to the preK class and I think I pushed to hard because it took forever plus he is very stubborn and it was very frustrating. The second, is the baby and I didn't push at all since I realized he will do it when he is ready and he did. He was completley potty trained 4 months before his 3rd birthday. We celebrated when he went, had some naked days in the beginning and did not use pull ups because he really didnt like when pee ran down his leg so he pretty much potty trained himself. The gerber underwear also work great at night in case their is an accident or in the car because it will hold about a cup of liquid just in cast. Best of luck but most importantly just be patient - it will happen
