Mother of 22 monh old daughter in speech therapy.

Hello, my name is Sandy and I have a 22 month old daughter named Sienna who has been in speech therapy for almost 4 months through our Birth 2-3 program and Early Interventions. I would like to say that I am very grateful for getting Sienna started in therapy. I was hesitant about the idea at first and thought I may be pushing her too hard and fast, but she has gone from saying just a few words at 18 months to almost 50 words at 22 months. I was very concerned at one point and thought perhaps she was autistic and I was gearing myself up for the long haul, but we are now seeing that isn't the case. I would love to talk with other parents who are using speech therapy with thier children and to learn how well it is working for them.

Hi Sandy,

I'm like you, really happy that our son (and us!) have gotten help from speech therapy for 6 months now.  Our son is presenting with CAS, but isn't yet 3, so it's not offaical.  We're at 100 words now, with new stuff popping up all the time, yet struggle with simple words, like 'wa-wa' to get to 'water'.  When we didn't know what it was really about, it was hard to understand why he could say a word like 'delicious' but not 'bye-bye'.  Working with a speech thearpist has been such a blessing!  We're going to start targeting a word a week that is in his 'struggles with' catagories, such as 'w' words.

hi Sandy! Welcome to the group. a good speech therapist is such a blessing. i know i lean on ours to give me tons of ideas to do at home, as well as her professional therapy with my son. i didn't love our first therapist, but now we have our second and i know she cares about my son making progress and that is a great feeling to have.
