When my 5 1/2 month old baby girl goes to sleep for about the first 1-2 hourse sometimes even 3 hours she periodically brings her legs up high and slamms them down on the mattress, this doesn't seem to wake her up or anything, at least I don't think so because her eyes are closed. Is this just her way of putting her self to sleep or what? Does any other babies do this and if so does anyone know what it means?
Thanks,
Lorena |

My son does that also. I think he only does it for the 1st hour though. In the middle of the night I can hear him kicking his legs also. My guess is it does put him to sleep. He still sleeps in our room in the pack and play. I haven't moved him into his crib yet. Does your baby sleep through the night? My son isn't consistent yet but sometimes does sleep until 6am. |

| yes, most of the time. She sleeps in her crib. She generally will go to bed between 9 and 10 and wake up at 5:30. |

| My baby does it to. Usually the first hour or so and then I also notice it when he is having a hard time going to sleep. He is 5 mos today and has yet to sleep through the night. It is very weird to watch, I dont know why they do it ? |

my twins both did that at about 4 months and I really can't tell you when it stopped, but it did stop
as your baby gets older she will try and do things in her sleep that she has learned to do while awake
one of my girls would sit up in her sleep not long after she mastered sitting up while awake
also they will wake up after just a few hours of sleep and try and do some of the stuff they have learned in the day time ... such as crawling, standing is big one, walking and babbling
my husband and I used to lay in bed laughing as they would just babble or raspberry in their cribs
it's all excitment and wonder enjoy it Colleen |

| Thanks for your responses. I think it has more to do with if she is having a hard time falling to sleep like you suggested Colleen, thanks. I'll look forward to more fun times while she's sleeping. ;) |

| Our son did this at about 4 months. It was when he was starting to learn to rock on his legs and get ready for crawling. He did it maybe for a few weeks and then stopped. Also, whenever we carried him in a harness carrier thing, he would do it more. I wonder now if it cut off his circulation or something...anyway, it's not abnormal...and they'll go through these phases whenever some new movement is being learned. Our son is restless once again with sleep now that he's learned to walk. |
