Darren J.

Hello, I am a married father of 2 children in whom I value more than life itself. I have an 11 year old son that was diagnosed wit autism spectrum by his former school district. Is there anyone who shares my pain as far as my son has mood swings, fascination with trains, and has a real problem with #2. I have read that the spectrum may have an impact on #2, is there anything anyone can share with me concerning this and his mood swings or dietary tips.

    Sincerely,

        Darren J.

Hello Darren,

This is a rather late response. I apologize. My son is 4 and has PDD/NOS. He is obssesed with numbers and letters. All I can tell you is that children on the spectrum seem to have quirks with some things. It might be the shape or something he once associated with it. I noticed once that my son only played with letters that had angles. It comes and goes and I am sure it will be something else down the road. As long as it is not debilitating him I wouldn't worry. As far as mood swings go, there is alot of talk about the gluten free diet and how it helps children on the spectrum with their behaviors and moods. However, talking to your sons doctor is a good idea. It is a costly diet and takes much patience and dedication. I would journal his mood swings and ask his MD or psychologist what they think. journals are great tools for docs to pin point the issue at hand. Hope this isn't too late of an input? Good luck Darren!
