New Working Mom

Hi,

I am a new mom of a 6 week old boy and will be heading back to work in March.  I am very concerned about heading back to work and leaving my little one in a day care for 10 hours a day.  Does anyone know of a Nanny situation or day care facility that they would recommend.  Also, I would love some advice on how to cope with leaving my son in day care, I am not looking forward to it.  How do people do it?  Are you able to find some time for yourself as well?

Thanks.

For the nanny situation, did you try to google nannies and then your city/state? Craigslist has a section for daycare also. You've got some things to consider. If you do a home daycare, your child is most likely going to get a lot of one on one attention but the drawbacks are high also. If your provider gets sick or has a child of their own and gets sick you're left high and dry. Also, what do you do when he/she goes on vacation? With a center there's always someone there but your child doesn't get as much one on one time. It's very routine which is great. If you could afford to bring someone into your home, great! So much to consider.

I have three children. My youngest is 10 months and we've lucked out that he gets to stay at home with my husband during the day and then he goes to school at night. Eventually, he'll be in daycare. My transition back to work was very hard. I developed postpartum depression and now am on meds. I don't say this to scare you just to raise awareness. If you begin to develop symptoms of PPD it's nothing to be ashamed of and help is available.

Good luck!!
