Does anyone else find it more challenging to deal with the 'terrible two's' with a child with speech delays? It seems like my 2 yer old daughter throws more fits then most kids her age lately, because she hs trouble expressing what she needs.

She is early intervention weekly for her speech delay, but I am still so frustrated!

hi Dana-i think the problem is you have your typical 2 year old power struggles you would normally have but on top of that you have this little person who is constantly frustrated you don't magically know what she wants...at least that was how it was with our oldest son. yep, double dose of terrible 2's, just what we all need now that my son is older, and can be understood better we are much happier...we just try to avoid too much frustration when we don't understand what he wants--will your daughter show you what she wants? walking around the house, opening the refrigerator, picking him up to point to things were the only things that kept me sane...we still do our fair share of walking, but it's at least without some of the aggravation on his end.

I am so in the same boat.  I have a 2 1nd 1/2 year old and boy has it been challenging.  There are times I do not have a clue of what she is saying.  It is very hard.  She whines, or just repeats things, and that is very fustrating... I try to get her to point, use sign language, the PEC system... These are something we use.  I am trying to do flash cards as well, to increase the language.  Just wanted you to know you are not alone, we have been dealing with this a long time.  Good luck to you:) Allie
