Has anyone started preparing for the Autumn/Winter holidays yet?

I'm home this year much more than I had been in the past couple of years and want to make it a fantastic holiday season. Everything from decor to new (healthy) attractive menus. I have started saving my spare change to help out. Recently I found some Christmas flowers at a yard sale for 50 cents. I also want to make some things as well that I haven't done in years, I made some jam this past week.

Please tell me any ideas you ladies have.

I am trying, but my son's first birthday is coming up in September, and I have to get through that first! Last year I made an ornament for the christmas tree from one of his bottles. I decided to make a new one each year from something he used during the year, instead of buying a keepsake ornament each year. I haven't decided what to make this year.

I want to make a whole set of traditions for our family because I didn't have a lot of that as a kid, and I really want the holidays to be special for my son.

I haven't even thought about them yet. Although I like your idea of the jam for presents. Do you have a good easy recipe. Since blueberries here are in season would it be a good time to use them or do you buy frozen?

We pick them fresh(and cheaper) at a fruit farm. You certainly can use frozen as well, (we freeze a lot for winter use). Most blueberry jam recipes are the same, Suregel has a good one in their box of pectin. Although you can make most jams without pectin if you cook it long enough for the sugar to thicken.

I looked at some crafts sites this am and found one for wreaths. Then I remembered that our back fence is covered with vines so I think that I will cut some down and roll them in a circle shape to dry. I did that one year with wild grape vines and made a huge wreath for the side of the house. Hey, its free decor, right?
The other day I saw some autumn print towels a the dollar store, I think we could use them as doily type table covers for the bathroom.

Does anyone remember ironing leaves and crayon chips between wax paper to make placemats in school? We did it with our kids at home and have great memories from it.
