happy holidays

Hi everyone. I wanted to wish everyone happy holidays. I always get reflective this time of year as I look back on the last 12 months and look forward to the new year.

This year (like last year) I'm looking back with happiness with our little achievements, frustrastion that progess isn't as quick as I'd like it to be, and overall, today, I'm just not content. I hate days when I'm not content, but I guess everyone has them occasionally.

Looking forward to the new year I have to wonder if (and hope more than anything else) this will be our last year of therapy. What small and large goals will be met? How will the year unfold?

If anyone has any updates they'd like to share, I'd love to hear them...Later I'll be posting ours. If you don't feel like posting an update, but just want to post about how you're feeling, or how your day is going that would be great!

I'll be the fiirst to reply.  My son Ryan is 4 1/2 years old.  He's had speech therapy since about 2 1/2.  He is now talking like a chatterbox, but still has a lot of problems with a lot of letter sounds.  We understand most of what he says though, so it has been such an improvement.  When he started preschool last year (where he gets speech as well as pt and ot), he had 18 words total!  I can't believe that it's only been just over a year!  He has come so far.  And while he still has a ways to go, we are so thankful for all that he has learned.  Even the sounds that he has problems with are suddenly starting to sound more clear (just over the last month or so).

Hopefully, this year we will get him back into his second speech therapy at our Children's hospital (insurance ran out in August) and get him close to his peers before starting kindergarten in the Fall.

Wow! Kristin that's so great! Sounds like the past year was wonderful for you and your son! How exciting! I love to hear progess reports like that. Thanks so much. Were you doing anything different a home, or did things just really start to "click" for him?
