grr is an understatement

My children are driving me insane i think they do not listen to simple requests, my oldest is rude and is constantly talking back or just not listening to a request or plotting and planing things she knows will get everyone into trouble..... for instance last night we asked the girls Karizma 9, Kordy 6 to clean up their Barbie's off the floor i went up with them to show them where to place the dolls and the clothes that were spread out on the floor... I left and came back up and they sill hadn't picked up their room I gave them several opportunities to clean befor they lost there toys or bacame grounded for not completeing the task given. Karizma kept repeating how unfair it was and how she needed more time to pick up...then she said she didn't care if we took her toys or grounded her.....ERRR......So finally I went and helped the K girls put the ?barbie's in their respective homes and told them to go to their room until supper and think about what just happened. Then they horsed around and played I think i'm going wrong somewhere or other....not sure what to do feel like I'm drowning........

Brittany, Don't feel so bad, every now and then that happens in my home. Don't preach to them-it won't work. What I do with my kids (aged 17 & 7) is I take them down to the homeless shelter and I let them see other kids who have nothing. I let them know that whatever they don't want, this is where it goes. My seven year old is impressionable and ends up giving her toys she no longer plays with. My 17 year old-he gets the message-he just likes to test the water a bit.

I am a mother of 4 and sometimes it is hard to deal with not listening. I just recently read a book that is amazing and a must for all parents and those who work with children, it is called Grooming the Next Generation for Success by Dani Johnson check out her website you can order it there www.danijohnson.com It will help you think of ways to help your children succeed even picking up when told. If you ever need someone to talk with feel free to email me tonya_l_mills@yahoo.com.
