I just started my first period after giving birth 5 1/2 months ago. I'm still breastfeeding and thought that you weren't suppose to have a period till you stopped breastfeeding. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this? |

Hey Lorena,
Has there been a drop in how much you are breastfeeding? I had to pump for 4 months, but when the amount I was getting dropped because of the drop in frequency of breatfeeding, i got my period. I doubt there is anything to worry about, but call your obgyn just to ease your mind. |

I also got my period around 2 months after my son was born. My dad's a doctor, so I asked him and he said that it's very normal to get your period while breastfeeding. I know for myself that it was really hard to nurse in the beginning, so I gave my son bottles, which probably caused my period to come so soon. There's nothing to worry about b/c it's normal. |

Not to worry every woman and pregnancy is different. I breastfed for a year with my first son but started my perion 6 weeks after he was born. Now 3 years later I have a beautiful little girl who is now 4 months old and thankfully I have not yet started. ;) I have learned that shat "they say" does not always apply to everyone. |

I started my first period after my daughter was born when she was 6 months old. And I nursed her just fine till she was 18 months old. I wouldn't worry about it, but if it makes you feel better talk to your Dr. |

I also breastfeed my son and I started my period at 7 months old for him. However, it is not consistant when it happens. I used to be clockwork girl and now I am totally random...Is that "normal" ? I am hoping that it is...cause of all the "trauma" from childbirth. Why doesn't anyone ever tell you hope terrible the recovery from childbirth is? LOL |

It takes a long time to get back to normal after childbirth, and some things may never be the same as they were before. You will have to redifine normal. It is nothing to worry about when you have periods during breastfeeding and irregular periods. But if you are still unsure talk to your doctor. |

I brestfeed my baby for 6 months and I get my period about 3 months after he was born, the dostor say that was completly normal, some people have it during the breastfedding period and others after they stop.. Also my first period was a little bit heavy and scary but my doctor say that was normal too, but if is heavy you have to watch it very carefully..... |
