I've been mixing applesauce with my son's rice cereal for about a week now and after talking with my pediatrician's office I found out that applesauce and bananas can give infants constipation. I'm getting ready to start him on something new, are there other foods out there that I should be wary of? I don't want to give him two foods back to back that will tighten him up if I can avoid it. |

Hi Jackie, Those two friuts plus the rice cereal I think are the worst ones. Emilie has always had trouble with constipation, she eats oatmeal cereal and I give different friuts. If he seems very constipated try some prunes with the cereal or a little prune juice with water (I would put 1 oz of juice and 3 oz of water). I have been using gerber foods they have a good selection, once he starts on stage two there are even more to try. I also keep some benadryl handy just in case she might be allerigic. So far no reactions and she really like all friuts and veggies. |

How old is your baby? My pedi told me to put a little Kayro syrup in my son's bottle and that works everytime. It doesn't take much and it only works when they are infants, it won't work when they get older. It draw water into the intestines and helps loosen the stool. You can use the light or the dark I just always used the light. Also a little straight applejuice depending on your baby's age if he is on juice you can give him a couple of ounces staight that works really well to. |

My son also has been constipated a lot just from being on the rice cereal. Can anyone tell me if you are suppose to use the baby Apple juice, or the regular adult Apple juice? |

I always use baby apple juice. I didn't start the juice until after 6 months, I was worried it would be too strong. |

The rice cereal also constipated Mackenzie (4months). I mixed it with regular apple juice and it didn't upset her stomach or anything. I also offer her some apple juice in a bottle usually 1 ounce juice 3 ounce water if it's really bad i do 1:2. |

Ok....I dont know why your pedi would tell you applesauce is a constipater, cause its what i give to my son to make him poop. thats why gerber makes and applesauce prune mix. I had to stop giving my son rice cereal cause it clogged him up. but anything is pretty much ok in moderations. |
