Ear Infections
My 3 month old has another ear infection. She's on antibiotics for it, but i also asked the pharmacist if there was anything else i could do. My mother recomended homeopathic ear drops but the pharmacist strongly disagreed. She says they sometimes have cortizone in them and they are not regulated by the FDA. With her last ear infection we used these drops by Simalson (sp) and they seemed to help tremendously especially at bed time. But now that the pharmacist told me that, i'm worried i may have given her something extra that her body couldn't handle and that might have lead up to this ear infection to.
Also along with the ear infection comes horrible spitting up. It started last thrusday, and i thought maybe it was just her formula. A nurse friend of mine said that it sounded like she was having an alergic reaction to her formula. She was on it for 2 and a half months, but it did seem like it hurt her every time she swallowed it. When we switched her on friday she did fine and kept all her food down. Then tuesday the doc said she had an ear infection. Could the spitting up and ear infection be related? If so why did she stop spititng up when we switched formula?

Most children who have ear infections also have problems with spitting up. I have twin 2 year old nephews and still if they get an ear infection they spit up even at their age. I have been lucky and my 19 month old daughter has only had one ear infection and it was mostly just swimmers ear so she didn't spit up from it but she does still spit up when she is teething too. What kind of formula was she on before and what kind did you switch her to when you switched her?

My son had the Enfamil with rice startch for his spit-up problem but it became far worse, so I switch back to Enfamil Lipil. I also tried ready to feed version, which seems to make him spit up more than making it from the powder.

My pedi also said at anytime a baby can have a problem with their formula brand without any reason, so periodically switching helps.

Sorry I don't know much about ear infection relation.

I just posted to your other question before I saw this one on her pushing her bottle away, I bet that is why because of the ear infection. The sucking hurts their ears when they have an ear infection this happened with my son when he was younger. He never had spitting up issues with an ear infection though Idon't think, he was 9 mos when he got his first ear infection. We used the enfamil for 0-12 mos the powder and mixed it with nursery water he never had any problems. The ready made stuff seemed to constipate him. The pedi prescribed him amoxcillian for his ear infection and said to prop him up a little in his bed. You can roll up a towel or something and put it under her mattress so the fluid doens't go straight to her ears when she sleeps. Ear infections take a while to clear up. I don't know if she is to young for the amoxicillian but I would ask your pedi before trying to medicate with over the counter stuff.
