Sasha - I would ask your school's special ed teacher how early it is possible to detect reading disorders. My daughter had the same problems and was eventually diagnosed (only after years of frustration and homework battles) with a learning disorder in reading/writing. She now gets extra help and modified lessons in school to help her learn.

Schools are required at parent request to test for disabilities but I am not sure how early the tests are accurate. It sometimes takes some pushing and persistence to get it done - request information on this testing from your school district so you can learn the procedures in your area - it varies from place to place.  If you have to get pushy (like I did) do it! Now that my daughter is getting the extra help she needs, she is finally starting to progress in these areas.
