Raising CODAs (Children of Deaf Adults) or Deaf/ Hard of Hearing Children
Public online group

New to the group

Hi.  I am glad I found a group like this.  My husband Nick and I both hear normally.  My sound is about 50% deaf in both ears.  It has been a struggle.  Noah knows some sign language and only really communicates with that.  We are blessed for him to be going to school now and having speech and hearing specialists meet with him almost every day.  Even though I knew there was something wrong with Noah's hearing, the first hospital I took him to said there wasn't.  It  wasn't till last dec. that we found out how bad his hearing is.  In March he got his hearing aides.  Hasn't even had them a year yet.  But I find myself getting frustrated with him not talking and understanding me.  I am hoping there are people on here that can relate.

Thank you and God Bless!

Lindsay

I am hard of hearing myself and raising hearing children, so it is the opposite for me. I do hope to see other parents come on here to help you out as well. My mother went through the same struggles as you in raising me. From what I have experienced in having my mom raise me, hang in there. Its always rough the first couple of years with him figuring out the language he can use. I suggest you to learn some sign language to help him communicate with you. Keep up the effort! if you have any questions, feel free to ask. If I can't answer it, I'll ask my mom her point of view and relay it to you. I don't know if she has time to join this group, since she has her hands full with her horses. :)
