I also started my own playgroup, but I chose Yahoo Groups as my host web site. We got up to about 120 members at our highest enrollment but we decided to remove inactive members and we now have about 60. You can also go to Cafe Mom, Raising Them, and Play Groups USA, and many others and look for groups in your area.
Another good activity is checking with your local library and seeing if they offer any groups/classes for your child's age. The ones in my area offer them for each year of age.
Depending on the age of your child, I'd also look for any local preschools that offer a 1-3 morning a week program. The one we chose for our children offers a Parent/Tot program for 2 year olds that meets one morning a week for 90 minutes, a 3 year old class that meets two mornings a week, and a 4 year old class that meets two mornings a week and an optional afternoon class. Because it's a cooperative, the tuition is about 1/2 a drop-off program AND you get to be involved.
You can also look for a well-attended park in your area and go often. Be outgoing and chat it up with other moms you see there with kids of similar age as your kids.
Good luck and congratulations on being given the opportunity to be home with your kids! |
