My daughter HATES her carseat. She used to fall asleep in the car when we would take her out, but now if I am going anywhere but around the corner she gets so upset. She screams and cries and tries to gag herself with her fist. Today she was crying so much she could barely breathe! We have had problems in the past, but we thought she outgrew them. She is 23 1/2 months old, but she is speech delayed and I think that is part of the problem. She is unable to tell me what is wrong. We have tried music, singing to her, giving her food and her sippy and toys and nothing works. Does anyone else have this problem, and if so what did you do? |

Do you have children songs?? That works for us. We use it all the time, and she sings along with the tape. She hates my singing so the tapes work! LOL |

if you haven't already, check the car seat and make sure nothing's poking her, that it's still comfy, etc. have you tried signing with her? |

We have some CD Box set of kids songs, but they don't hold her attention. I did check her seat and I can't find anything poking her anywhere. I think she just doesn't like to be strapped in because she is fine in her stroller as long as she is moving. She is fine in the car on short excursions, too. We have tried singing. That doesn't work either. We take off the shoes, play peek-a-boo in the mirror, open the magic roof, etc. Nothing works. She'll calm down briefly and then start wailing again. |

I have taught her some signs, but she isn't too receptive to it. She will answer me by shaking her head if I sign something to her, i.e. hungry, but she will not come to me and sign what she wants. I looked into a class, but it was very expensive and we couldn't afford it. We are awaiting the start of her speech therapy, and we have an appointment with a developmental pediatrician tomorrow. |

my daughter did that and still does from time to time. at first i tried everything under the sun to try to calm her down, books, radio, her babies, even her brother (whom she adores) could not calm her down. now when she does it, and it sounds horrible but we ignore her. after a few minutes, we offer something, if she refuses, we ignore for another few minutes until she either realizes nothing is working or she falls asleep. does she fuss when someone is holding her down and playing or anything like that? could she be claustorphobic or is she too young for that? |

i am no expert, but from what i understand, it's AWESOME that your daughter responds to your signs by shaking her head. if you keep it up, you may find her responding. hang in there! and i'll say an extra prayer for tomorrow's appointment! |

We have tried ignoring her too. I didn't think about the claustrophobic thing. That is a possibility. She doesn't like to be restrained unless she is moving. She is the same way in her stroller. As long as you're walking she's fine. Stop to talk to a neighbor and forget it! She tries to climb out. She isn't too bad in her high chair. Those poor little things. They have them strapped in like race car drivers. I wish I could put her in a booster now, but I can't. And as far as the shaking her head in response, she only gets it right sometimes. I'll ask her if she want more to eat and she'll shake her head yes, then I'll give it to her and she'll throw it on the floor. Thanks for the good wishes for tomorrow. I'll try to let you all know how me made out. |

Check in commuity you live in, they sometimes offer free classes, or at low cost. My husband and I took a class and it was free |

I did. The person whose information I got lives one town over and she was really expensive. I know little bits of sign language, and some I have made up just to try to help her along, but as I said she hasn't been too receptive to it. |
