Health Plan

Whatever the outcome will be is I think it is important that the President is talking about reforming the health care system.

I understand that interest groups might be against any changes but why the 90% of the population feels satisfied with the status quo.

Doesn't everybody know someone that on the top of dealing with an illness had to struggle with insurance company?

My problem is not that they are talking about reforming the health care system.  My problem is them deciding that I have to have health insurance, even though I cannot afford it.  And Congress is going to decide who can and cannot afford it.  Based on what standards?  Who are they to decide what I can and cannot afford.

If I could afford it, I would already have it.

I personally would LOVE to see a single payer system.  I know that I personally have health insurance, yet let myself become so ill that I had to be hospitalized over Easter weekend because I couldn't afford the copays on doctor visits to KEEP from getting that ill!  I had one of my babies at home largely because we didn't have any insurance so I didn't think we'd be able to handle the medical bills if we had him in the hospital (I didn't know it at the time, but we would have qualified for Medicaid).  I almost died 8 years ago from pneumonia because I couldn't afford to see a doctor, since my employer didn't offer health insurance.  My husband and his first wife had to declare bankruptcy because of medical bills when he was in an accident and his leg was completely crushed.  Right now, we are having issues because he was injured at work in June and his worker's comp claim has been denied so medical bills are piling up (even with insurance) that there is no way we could ever pay (in this case, we'll be suing to get the worker's comp since it was wrongfully denied).  All this BS, and I'm sure I could think of more if I put some time and effort into it, is from one family.  How many other people in this country are suffering because of our stupid lack of priority on people's health?

We could really use Medicaid right now, but we don't qualify because my husband actually works for a living.  They told us he needs to quit his job or we need to have more kids to qualify.  We get punished for trying to make something of ourselves.

Working people can get Medicaid.  My husband works full time and I work part time, so I strongly resent your implication that we don't "actually work for a living" or try to make things better for ourselves.  We work our butts off and still have to live with his mom and get occasional help from the government like Medicaid for prenatal care and births (no, we don't qualify for ongoing coverage, except for the kids) and WIC.

Well unfortunately this working family cannot get Medicaid.  I did not mean to attack you personally, however, my experience has been most people take advantage of the system.

My son doesn't even qualify for CHIP, Medicaid or anything like that.  Although someone was able to steal his SS number to get Medicaid, even though he personally isn't able to get it.

Sorry if I sound a little bitter, but that's been my recent experience.
