my son yells

i have a 5 year old , if he needs somthing he will yell for it and i can be in the other room just this AM he is in hes room he yells to say he would like a glass of water ,, and im only 6 feet away from him ,, i tell him not to yell , but he will still do it any of your kids do the same

Hi Jodi - My yells for me as well. My husband and I have payed close attention to our behavior, and we noticed that we do it do on occasion. We are trying not to do it anymore and we have told our son that we are not responding unless he comes to us to ask. When he yells, we ignore him and then he eventually comes and finds us.

Good advice from Rachael! We are supposed to reward good behavior and ignoring the bad would certainly do it. We are loud in are home as well and a friend suggested the '12 inch voice approach', which means my voice should only go 12 inches ect...
