Hi I am new to this site my 9 year old son was diagnosed with PDD-NOS about a year ago. In doing research on the diagnosis I don't know if they are right. The only characteristic he has is the inability to tell when he is annoying another child.

Lynne,

Hi, my name is Tessa. My almost 2 year old son was diagnosed a few months ago with classic Autism. I know how you feel though, his pediatrician told me he thought it was Aspergers. When i started researching, i was sure that this wasn't Aspergers. It was either classic Autism or PDD NOS. Later we saw a special child psychologist who diagnosis disorders. That when we got the classic Autism diagnosis, along with a detailed explination of the test and results.

But characteristics of Autism Spectrum disorders can range greatly from very mild to severe. What other characteristics does he have that don't necessarly describe PDD-NOS?

Tessa is right.  Look into having a developmental pediatrician do a diagnosis.  We get one each year through my son's school program, Infants and Toddlers.  We just had our for the year.  She does a 2 hour test including working with my son, looking over his whole body, asking me questions, etc.  She even suggested some blood work be done this year.  He is on the low end of the spectrum still. Hope that helps!
